The Morganville Vampires - Rachel Caine *Spoiler Free*

Image
The Morganville Vampires is a 15 book series written by the lovely Rachel Caine.  I recently read all 15 books, and the short stories included in the back of these editions, in just under 4 weeks. They were so addictive and I couldn't put any of the books down! I won't ruin the plot of any of these books because believe me some of the events will have you leaning forwards into the book with a hand over your wide open mouth!  Throughout the series, we follow a girl called Claire who has just started College in Morganville, Texas. She ends up living in the 'Glass House' which no, it isn't a house of glass as I immediately thought. It is called the 'Glass House' because it is owned by Michael Glass. This is where Claire learns that Morganville is run by vampires. Yeah. Not your average American College experience. This is all I can tell you about the premise without ruining anything fo you so I will leave this here and go onto the characters.  ...

Alexandra Bracken's 2017 release!

Image
You can look at the full details on Alexandra Bracken's website  here From what I understand this will be the first instalment in a new middle-grade series. It is about the main character, Prosper, who learns that he has a demon living inside him due to his great-great-great-great-great-something grandfather making and breaking a contract with a demon. This demon has now reawakened and its sole purpose is to destroy the family who betrayed him - Prosper's family. Now Prosper has days to banish the demon back to its own realm, however, it's not easy when the demon lives inside him and trying to trick Prosper into a contract. 'Yeah, Prosper will take his exorcism without a side of eternal servitude, thanks.' I personally think this sounds like a really interesting concept and with Bracken's writing I know it will be amazing. The release date for this title is September 5th 2017 and is currently available to pre-order on  Barnes & Noble ,  iBooks , ...

New Releases for 2017!

Image
These are only a few of the amazing releases for 2017. Most of the descriptions are from goodreads and I don’t claim any credit for these. I used these definitions for books that I haven't read the earlier books too and don't know much about the story.  Wayfarer (passenger 2) - Alexandra Bracken - 12th January This is a sequel to Alexandra Bracken's Passenger. To my knowledge this is a duology so, sadly, this will be the last installment. This is an amazing duology about time travel and mystery in which Etta has to travel across the world in different time periods in order to track down a mystical object that will save her mum.  You can buy this book  here The One Memory of Flora Banks - Emily Barr - 12th January HOW DO YOU KNOW WHO TO TRUST WHEN YOU CAN'T EVEN TRUST YOURSELF? I look at my hands. One of them says FLORA BE BRAVE. Flora has anterograde amnesia. She can't remember anything day-to-day: the joke her friend made, the instructio...

Diversity December Bingo!

Image
I understand that it is very hard to find diverse books (I know this from my own experience of trying to complete this bingo board for a few hours now) So I thought I would help you out a little. Throughout this post, I am under the impression that 'PoC' stands for 'Person of Colour'. If I am wrong then feel free to correct me and ignore the recommendations for PoC categories. Non-Western Cultural Fantasy - Daughter of the sword by Steve Bein This one was particularly hard for me as I have never read any books from this genre (and have only just really started to dabble into fantasy in general) I chose this book as it has a lot of good reviews. This book is described as an 'unusual fantasy' by many that is set in Japan across multiple eras. It is a contemporary story with a mix of detective and urban fantasy about an investigation into the attempted theft of an ancient sword. This book contains 3 period stories (two set in samurai periods and one se...

You Know Me Well - David Levithan and Nina LaCour

'Who Knows you well? Your best friend? Your boyfriend or girlfriend? A stranger you meet on a crazy night? No one, really?' This book is fantastic. If you need me to back up this opinion I have two points... 1. I read this book in under 2 hours (which is very fast for me as I usually take weeks to read a 300 page book - this one is 248) 2. I paid the ridiculous price of $24.99 NZD for this when I just wanted an author I knew when I was in a place I didn't know. (that's about £12.50 or $17.70 USD for a paperback) First of, I want to talk about the characters. I don't know if each author was in charge of each character or if they created and voiced both together, however they did it, they did a great job. Mark is brilliant. One of the first things we see him do is dance on a bar with his shirt off which I see as incredibly brave and a VERY big hint that he likes Ryan (his best friend). It is during this dance that he spots Kate, a girl from his school, in the s...
