OWLs Read-a-thon!

OWLs Read-a-thon!

Hosted by Book Roast this read-a-thon gives you prompts in order to create your dream career within the Wizarding World.

This reading challenge was created in 2019 and, unfortunately, I haven't seen many people continue the challenge. I have decided to pick this challenge up for the next two months and challenge myself to become a 'Healer'.

OWLs Exams - July

To begin my studies as a healer I need to take 8 classes, 5 set and 3 that I can choose from.

The 5 compulsory subjects are...

Herbology - Read a book with a plant on the cover

Charms - Age-line: read an adult book

Defense Against the Dark Arts - Reducto! Read a book with the title beginning with an 'R'

Potions - Next ingredient: sequel

Transfiguration - Sprayed edges or a red cover

And the three I chose were...

Care of Magical Creatures - Read a book with a land animal on the cover

Arithmancy - Read a work written by more than one author

Muggle Studies - Read a contemporary

My TBR

Herbology - Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo

This fits the prompt as the cover has a tree on the front and I am classing a tree as a plant. This is the     second book in the King of Scars duology and part of Bardugo's Grisha Verse. I absolutely love this        duology so far because I started the Grisha Verse with Six of Crows and so I am seeing characters I        know and love from those living their lives in this new storyline. I may have opened this one and            seen Jesper's name and gotten very excited!

Charms - The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

I mainly read YA but as part of my degree I need to read this book again and so I am including it in        this challenge to try and motivate me to do my uni reading early! Everyone knows what The Great        Gatsby is about right? In summary: a love sick young man tries his best to become rich in order to        win the affection of a woman who, in reality, really did not deserve all the effort.

Defense Against the Dark Arts - Replica by Lauren Oliver

I have had this book for so long and not gotten round to reading it so this was my immediate pick for     a book starting with R. It also fits perfectly with the next prompt which is...

Potions - Ringer by Lauren Oliver

The sequel to Replica! I believe this is a duology and so I will have finally read this story if I                complete the OWLs exams! These two books follow clones and are written in dual perspective but        half of the book each and so you can decide if you want to read one perspective and then the other or     if you want to alternate. I am excited but also worried about how immersed I can get with the story if     I am constantly flipping the book and searching for the next chapter.

Transfiguration - Chosen Ones by Veronica Roth

I picked this one up recently after loving Carve The Mark so much. My edition has beautiful                blue/green sprayed edges and so I am using that as an excuse to pick this up before some of the older     books on my TBR (oops!) This is one of the few adult books I own and follows a group of people        who were once teen heroes and how they have lived since their great success of defeating the Dark        One.

Care of Magical Creatures - Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

This is a tricky one. The prompt was a book with a land animal on the cover and Siege and Storm has     a snake on the cover. I have googled it and I thiiinnkkk that a snake is a land animal? I'm going with        that anyway because I want to finish this trilogy so that I can watch the TV adaptation! This is the        second book in the Grisha Verse original trilogy following Alina's exploration and discovery of her        powers and how Ravka is going to survive the Darkling's reign.

Arithmancy - What if it's Us by Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli

I have loved everything I have read from both of these authors so I am excited to have a book on this     TBR that can be a non-fantasy book that I know I will love. This is a meet cute LGBTQ+ novel about     two boys who meet at a post office but somehow keep missing each other and not quite getting it            right. I just learnt that there is a sequel to this book called Here's To Us so I might be buying a new        book soon (oops again!)

Muggle Studies - Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King

A.S. King is another author who I will auto buy because ever since I read Glory O'Brien, I fell in love     with the writing style and creativity. This novel follows Vera who is trying to process the death of her     former friend and all of the secrets that she knows that could give clarity on how he died. But does        she want to clear his name after all he put her through? I don't know but I am going to find out!

I hope you all enjoyed reading my plans for the OWLs read-a-thon and maybe some of you will join me!
